I'm not sure about how the megachurch fits in Sandy. But I certainly see one of the problems in churches is that declining membership, declining denominations, and declining numbers of Christians in the US has left churches wondering who to blame. Churches don't want to blame their lack of change, unwillingness to change, or the change in society. So if the team isn't winning, blame the coach.
I think a lot of pastors are being made the scapegoats for the failure of the institutional church. I'm not saying pastors don't have responsibility for leading the church. But churches can only be led if they are willing to be led, grow, change, etc.
A lot of the future of church as we know it is going to depend the ability of the church to quit pointing fingers and blaming and actually deciding to change.
