Is Birth Control Biblical?

I just read the thread "Baptists and Birth Control", and I noticed there wasn't too much about what the Bible says on this issue, so I was wondering if you think the Bible prohibits or allows the use of birth control. For example, is it a sin to not have progeny, because God said to multiply? What about 1 Corinthians 7 and Matthew 19:12? What if the tribulation were to happen soon? Matthew 24:19 proclaims woe unto them that have children during the tribulation.

Do you think God striking Onan dead for "pulling out" is a clear example of God's wrath against birth control?

I think that God said for Adam and Eve to be fruitful and multiply. If you believe in an historical Adam and Eve, then it seems odd to me that you should think that this instruction applies to all individuals. Not to mention that this puts both Paul and Jesus in a rather unflattering light.

There is no reference to birth control in the Bible. Onan was about refusing to fulfill his duty to provide his brother with an heir. It had nothing to do with the modern subject of birth control.

Doesn't have to be a 3rd world country. I had a friend who's mother used to remind him to her dying day "YOU are the reason I HAD TO MARRY YOUR FATHER!". Children should be brought up in a family where they are longed for and wanted. Not grudgingly as the result of a violent act or a night of too mucho vino.

Jon, you and I are in the pretty much the same place on the birth control issue. We need to think both about children being born into this world and what happens to them after.
