In current book reading thread, I noted a side discussion about Civil war Pensions.
Such pensions seem to be news to some BL.C participants. I only knew about them because one of my former sister-in-laws discovered them in the early 1970's and the family spent months gathering documentation to establish their grand mothers eligibility, based on her being the widow of a union soldier.
Also what is now the Building Museum in Washington D.C. was originally the Civil war Pensions building. Just a few blocks from Calvary Baptist where the Northern Baptist Convention (now ABC-USA) was formed. We discovered that building while attending the 2007 CBF and ABC-USA meetings.
There is a good blog article @ http://wordpress.sonjara.com/tempe/2011 ... -pensions/
In that article it says there is no wiki article about them, but a wiki article has been crated since then. These and and several others can be found through Google.
At the present a significant part of my time is being adsorbed by joining Trudy as she learns the latest toy in her card making tools. A Scan and Cut by Brother, the same folk who make photo scanners, printers and sewing machines. Eventually I want to create some signage for my HO rail road that I haven't unpacked since the last two moves.
