On the eve of the MLK holiday, I have a new Baptist heroine: Isabel Crawford, missionary to the Kiowa. The *American* Baptist Home Mission Society fired her for allowing a Kiowa man to serve communion, when only *white* *male* *ordained* persons were entitled to do so. (I'm reading "The Jesus Road", a book about Kiowa hymns. Next: her autobiography.)
