I’ll side with Obama over Burk on this one. And I do think (but don’t know for sure) that if George Bush had said this, Burk would not have stood up to cry foul. It is fashionable for conservatives to find fault in Obama although if one looks at his record of actions, I contend Obama is a little right of W on most subjects (more siding with Big Business, more troops abroad, more deregulation, more allowance of surveillance, more deportation) and left of W on a few (EPA enforcement, maybe a little less torture[but Gitmo still there]).
But Burk’s theological point about Jesus’s range of human emotions is not outrageous but instead an interesting question (one of many we won’t know the answer to this side of death).
