Limbaugh and Coed Sex

Postby Haruo » Sat Mar 03, 2012 12:08 am

So the family values and morality people "want college students to post sex videos of themselves on the internet in exchange for prescription coverage"???

Hmmm...what "family values and morality people" would those be? One person makes a comment and then it's "family values and morality people".

I know, I was deliberately being that way, trying to get a rise out of folks. Which I suppose puts me plumb in Limbaugh's camp. I've been cooped up too long here with this ankle (gotta have some excuse)!

That's OK with me!!! We need a little spice on important issues

I think Limbaugh is like the preacher ranting about sex from the pulpit---trying to cover his own perversions and addictions.

Limbaugh owes that student an apology at the very least. From what I've heard of him over the years, his biggest contribution to talk radio, even broadcasting in general, would be to go off the air permanently.

I have a relative who puts him on the loudspeaker out in the orchard. The neighbors think it's to scare the deer off, but I'm afraid it's actually because he enjoys listening to him.

I am heartened to see that everybody from Boehner to Issa is falling all over himself put distance between said self and Limbaugh.

But you probably wouldn't publicly announce that you wanted them to post videos of their sex acts. Just guessing.

I was pleased that several of Rush's advertising, under pressure from customers, pulled their ads from Rush's show this week. I think they decided that advertising on a show where hate speech is a fairly regular occurance might not be good for the bottom line.

Somehow, I'm not surprised at ET's comment above.

When there is no climate change nor global warming, it's easy to ignore the hate in Limbaugh's declaration!!!

Is it true, as I have heard, that insurance will pay for Viagra-type drugs for men? If so, it seems to me there's a double standard. I shouldn't have to point out the obvious, that many of the women who use contraceptives are married and monogamous.

We should also remember that birth control pills are prescribed for women's medical issues besides just contraception, and have been for decades. I knew a high school student given them by her doctor for hormonal imbalances when I was a youth minister in 1974.

There are several medical conditions which are aided by taking the pill. But most people don't know that since the GOP doesn't let women testify about women's issues.

Limbaugh apologizes after advertisers pull out and condmenation from even his base Republicans. Note that it took about three days of condemnation and loss of advertisers for him to apologize for his "word choice”. Not much of an apology, imo.

Clear Channel has decided to stick with Rush (scroll down a bit). We do not have to stick with Clear Channel or its main political shows (Rush, Glenn Beck, Sean Hannity, Mark Levin, Savage Nation, ....). Clear Channel is the radio version of FoxNews/Murdoch’s empire. They have infected America’s thought with anti-gov/ pro-business hubris for too long. Turn them off or at least balance it with other news/ political commentary sources like Democracy Now.

Well I suppose Ed because it is the subject o the thread.

I was involved in the advertising protest against Rush. I was one of several thousand who contacted Carbonite and told them I'd be using their product if they continued to support Rush. I was pleased that Carbonite pulled their adveritsing and made a strong statement against Rush's insulting behavior.

Ed: And the thread gives Rush's comments an even wider audience. But Tim did you really mean you told Carbonite you would "be using their product if they continued to support Rush." :?: :?:

No Ed, typing too fast as usual. I meant that I would not be a customer if they continued to advertise on Rush's show. After they pulled their advertising I upped my subscription for another year.

Facebook was a good place for the campaign. Many people posted to Carbonite's page they they'd not be supporting the product if the sponsorship wasn't pulled.

Do women deserve privacy in health care decisions?

Postby Cathy » Mon Mar 05, 2012 4:52 pm

I believe from what I have read and seen in the media coverage of Ms Fluke's testimony she was not speaking about her own need for contraception but instead the fact that medications used for contraception may also be used for other medical conditions. And the fact that when contraception is not covered by insurance it is difficult to get the medications in question through the insurance company for any reason. She (a law student) appeared as an advocate for women. So if that is true then Limbaugh's comments were not even pertinent to her testimony.

Also the subject was not, do women expect the government to cover birth control. She was talking about private employers insurance benefits.

Women who need these medications for other medical reasons have to get notes from their doctors (I have written some of those notes) and they have to be given to someone in the personnel department at their work. Would that men had to get a note from their doctor for Viagra and take it to the personnel department at work.

Hope you guys don't mind a woman chiming in.

Whether or not private insurance should have to cover contraceptives (for non clergy) is not really the topic of this discussion and...

The question of whether women deserve privacy in regard to their health care decisions is also not the topic but I think the assault on Ms Fluke makes me more certain that women deserve to be treated with dignity and respect in their healthcare decisions. And denial of coverage of oral contraceptive medication by an employer rather than a physician based on the individuals severe risk of vascular complications is wrong.

Thank you, Cathy. Your words carry weight with me because of your profession and your gender. I'm of the opinion that this is an issue that should be decided primarily by a woman and her doctor, and not by politicians wrapping themselves in pious language to score points with their supporters.

Most of the men fussing about this have no dog in the fight, and need to sit down and be quiet. (I'll stop here. I'm sounding too much like Gene.) :)
