Iowa is interesting turf for a political campaign, especially because the caucuses there are so early. Essentially, Democrats generally wind up carrying the state by 3 or 4% because the Republicans have to shoot themselves in the foot by moving to the extreme right to try to win the caucus vote. But conservatives are a minority in Iowa, and so they wind up losing the general election. What's been happening over the past few weeks is that, the more the Republicans come to Iowa, buy television ads and have debates, the more President Obama's positive numbers move upward.
