Don't forget Newt in the Clinton Administration days.

Headed the Contract with America which was nothing more than a non-cooperation with Democrats program. Spoke loud and long over the scandal---only to have it revealed he was womanizing at the time as well (and divorced his wife).

He talks big and loud, but could hardly be called a "statesman."

To succeed as a President, a man must be able to somehow create at team effort in Congress----BUT Republicans never heard of that! Now the Tea Party faction is just Republicans on steroids of non-cooperation.

AND---which party is trying to defeat recovery so they stand a better chance in 2012?????

TERM LIMITS to all the jokers of ALL PARTIES!!!!

Fascinating Story but fails to engage or confront the demagogic right wing language of Newt on Church State Dec 1 at Tommy's Ham House.

I know some of the folks in this story.
Would hope Furman in particular would host an early January two hour roundtable discussion with Sarah Posner and Giberson/Stephens to get to the guts of Newtism this article evades.

Either what we have now or an optional tax structure:
15% flat tax with $12K/person deduction
12.5% corporate profit tax (was nominally 35%)
no capital gain taxes - investors get free ride even though they produce no product or jobs)
no estate tax (Newt popularized the phrase "death tax") - helping only 2% of the richest "juniors".
average tax cut (with the basis being the Bush Tax cuts) for those with yearly incomes over $1M is $613K or 11.9% tax rate cut; for most Americans (yearly incomes less than $100K), their tax rates would be cut by 0.5% - 3%

All of this revenue loss results in a $1.3T increase in the yearly deficit (more than what the Supercommittee could muster in spending cuts over ten years [$1.2T]).

Truly mind-boggling in its irresponsibility but perhaps a winning ploy wrt the GOP primaries.

Newt was part of the problems of waring politicians when he dedicated himself to the Contract With America. He loves to get his way and has no record of compromise on anything----and total dedication to re-election.

He managed to come out of the Sunday night debate OK, but it's a long way to November 2012.

If I were the President, I would be smiling at the weakness of the competition. They all must come up with a solution to the economic crisis better than has been done thus far.

At this point, the rich ARE getting richer / the working class is suffering more and more with job scarcity / not a single politician needs indefinite access to participation in an un-ending mess of nonn-cooperation =

They just put results of another survey on politics on the news:

People tiring of the stonewalling in Congress has risen in the last 3 months.
The President's approval rating risen by 7 points.

We will see what the troops coming home and hugging their loved ones as a result of Iraq withdrawal does for it all.

A Republican without a war is like a rich man running through the streets streaking----when nothing but skin shows, you are not quite as distracted by the expensive business suit. When the show is really on, they remove their silk ties to act like they work for a living!!!

Yesterday, they were predicting a win for Romney in the Iowa caucus.

6 weeks ago it was Herman Cane on the top of the grabage heap---oops, my fingers just do their own thing this early in the morning. My apologies to the Republicans who helped us into this economy and are doing all they can to keep us there until November 2012.

Sounds like some Deacons I have known: "We are supposed to solve problems. We don't have any problems. Preacher, you are it!!!"
