The Iowa Faith and Freedom Coalition met Saturday evening, Oct. 22, for the purpose of show-casing six of the Republican Party Prez Wannabes. The meeting place was the Knapp Animal Learning Center.

The MC was the VP of the Iowa coalition, Gopal Krishna, who reported the legal process of his becoming an American citizen. Ralph Reed fired up the crowd before the main speakers.

McCain made a firm promise to outlaw abortions and same-sex marriage.

Bachman blazonned her 5 children and 23 foster children; charged Obama with not supporting Israel, promised a Constitutional Amendment against abortion, would build a bigger fence on our border, would make English our official language, would get the Bible and prayer back in public schools, would repeal the $105 billion Obama-Care, and would cancel the Department of Energy, the Department of Education, the Environmental Protective Agency, and the Department of the Interior. (No mention was made regarding the number of unemployed who would be affected . . .) The basis of her remarks was the story of Jonathan in the Old Testament who worked a miracle on the battlefield.

Perry spoke of his early conversion to Christianity, his humble beginnings, and echoed Bachman's pledges. He would defund Planned Parenthood, go after activist judges, get a human Life amendment in the constitution, and outlaw stem-cell research and abortion.

(My computer is acting up; it won't let me continue with the previous post, so I am completing the report with this second post.)

Gingrich got the most applause, although most of it came when he reported that, while he was "in power," there was a tremendous surplus in the national budget. (He failed to mention that Clinton was the prez, and that the next prez blew the surplus.) Gingrich claimed that Obama's withdrawal of troops from Iraq was a defeat; that, as prez, he would fire Bernanke and audit the Federal Reserve; that he would defund Planned Parenthood and use the money to push plans for adoptions; that he would fire judges who ruled against prayers; he railed against the most popular analyses against the Obama administration, "socialism" and "class warfare." Newt never mentioned Jesus.

Paul quoted from several Old Testament passages regarding the family. He promised to cancel HUD, Energy, Education, Commerce (and one more; my notes were indecipherable). Paul never mentioned Jesus.

Santorum regaled the crowd with notes concerning his 7 children (home-schooled), listing his efforts in Congress wherein he voted his far right conservative politics, gave an emotion-laden description conerning one of his children who required intrauterine surgery (which he labeled as a miracle), and reported that age expectancy in 1776 was the same as in Jesus' time (I got neither the point nor the source).

The closing salvo was a rendition of a seven-eleven praise song, "We Are the People of God."

Please forgive my use of the name "McCain" intead of "Cain."

My fat fingers make my typing problematic; my 84-yr-old mind is responsible for the rest of the mess . . .

One more musing on the current scene: This morning's news regarding the clashes between police and protesters gives rise to one more critique of the situation.

The word "protest" has long been abused by "protesters."

My 25 lb unadulterated, unabridged, 600,000 entries, Webster's International Dictionary says that "pro" means in favor of, and that "test" means to testify. Ergo, to "protest" means to speak out in favor of some issue. Current "protesters" are simply "agin" something or other.

If I were involved in the "social networking" process, my entry would read as follows:

"Hey, guys, we're going to meet down in the town square. Bring your noise-makers; we'll have a blast. Since the issues are ill-defined, you can make up your own as we go along. If we can get a reaction from the police, you can brag for the rest of your life that you got arrested for trying to better the country. Besides, it's a great place to meet girls. And you might get interviewed by one of those cute blond TV reporters/commentators."
