The president sounded good on the jobs bill tonight, but the truth is it did not address the issues of : a) both repubs. and demos passed bills enabling the Nafta treaties, etc., to move jobs overseas and south of the border. b) made it profitable to move those jobs, most of which are the equivalents of slave labor efforts, c) Even so the jobs could simply have been eliminated due to three things: robotics, computerization, and automation. That has been the reality for 20 years. In Jan. of 1991 I wrote an evaluation of some materials supplied to me on jobs in the future by the Vocational Director of the Count School system in which I was working. That information was specific and exact, providing examples that had or were occurring at that time. During all of the hullabaloo over Jobs, I have heard only one tv network news broadcast make specific reference to one of those items listed above and that was automation (if my memory serves correctly. But then there is the matter of planning ahead to remove the jobs, a play written in 1906 told of treaties in the 1990s that would move jobs out of the nation. In 1906??? And in a work of fiction? The average everyday worker is not needed any more. Most people have been rendered superfluous, what H.G. Wells called "useless eaters" in his The Open Conspiracy.
