Anybody interested in strange weather elements increasing?
There are floods in the Dakotas, Nebraska, & Iowa
contrasted with
There is searing heat in the Permian Desert of West Texas
causing drought. The 'no irrigation crop's are non-existant.
The 'ancient water' in the Permian Basin is almost gone in many
places. Ah well, there is lots of pre-permian oil products left below
the Permian Basin which can be exploited when oil goes back over
US$100 per barrel.

To bad one cannot water crops with Carbon Dixoide (CO2)

Argue til the cows come home, but Eastern NC is far behind in rain and far ahead in heat. The crops are dying in the field and that most unusual for "God's little greenhouse" where farming it 'agribusiness'---and most farmers here have $1-5M borrowed to have this year's crop in the ground and schriveling!!!!

When we focus on individual events, it can become speculation. For sure, the Dust Bowl shows how quickly life can change!

If you remember the main cause of such, it was the lack of soil conservation by plowing the midwest from one end to the other. That removed the grasses of the plains which minimized erosion by wind. Man's hand and his drastic change to a part of this country got him in bad trouble! Despite improvements in farming techniques, a town in the midwest got choked with a monster dust cloud just this week!

Suface features of this earth have changed through the eons. If we were in a year long movie featuring the entire history of this planet from dust in space to now, mankind would appear only in the last 15 minutes of the year! Earth got along without us far longer than with us.

If we are stupid enough to think mother earth cannot shed us as the body does germs, then we aren't thinking very straight in my opinion!!! Is it possible some kind of great scientific culture frequented this planet in eons past---and populated / polluted / blew itself almost off the planet? What was in the Great Library at Alexandria which the barbarians looted and burned????? What kind of power did mankind harnass to build the pyramids????

I don't care to go back to the cave, but if we exhaust all the oil or hit the big red nuclear button, it could happen!!!

Ed: Gene as I drove through eastern NC primarily Rt's 13 & 17 last Thursday and Friday, I saw only one field where the crop (Corn) was starting to look seriously parched. Due to you previous reports I was rather surprised at how well most of the crops seemed to be doing. I am talking about Fayetteville to New Bern and up to the Virginia line.

God has blessed us with some showers over the last week and that brought an instant change to corn. You hit things at the right time to see recovery.

HOWEVER, most of the early sweet corn is done and is being plowed under. The only exception is irrigated fields.

I'm about a 20 minute drive off Hwy 17 which runs through Washington, NC, and on up to Chesapeake via the Great Dismal Swamp. We now have 3 major forest fires burning to my south and at Stumpy Point. The Stumpy Point fire is in the peat bog and needs a good 1-2 week slow rain to extinguish it. To date, that has not happened in 2 going on 3 months.

This time of year we normally have a good rain about every week. Since last week we have a pattern more normal coming about. Today rains are coming up from Florida and moving up the Coast which have finally given us some real relief. Weather commentators are saying it is "UNUSUAL" for eastern NC.
