Arizona acting like its own country

First, it was their immigration law, which directly violates the constitution, now the Arizona legislature has come up with its own standards for candidates for President of the United States, to define "native born citizen."

Apparently, there are some "birthers" among the state legislators in my home state. They've had some education issues in Arizona for a long time, namely underfunded schools and sagging test scores. Well, here's an example of what happens when people don't know their social studies. They become a public embarassment with their ignorance.

This "birther" stuff is absolutely amazing. Even Donald Trump is getting in on the act, making noise like he might run for President himself. The White House has to be jumping for joy over that prospect. And the fact that he's bought into the birther nonsense is, like those Arizona legislators, evidence that he is not fit to run or hold office.

The President had to establish his qualifications for election with legal documentation before he could ever get on the first ballot. You can believe whatever you want to, but the state of Hawaii has certified the documents he submitted, end of story. There is not a scrap of evidence that has been submitted to prove otherwise.

Poor Arizona. They're stuck with their governor and legislature for at least two more years.

Here is the true story from CNN on the birther nonsense. http://politicalticker.blogs.cnn.com/20 ... her-claim/

Trump should be laughed right off the stage. The fact that anyone is taking this birther stuff seriously just shows the gullibility of a portion of our population.

The constitution requires the President to be a natural born citizen. That has been defined in different ways over the years, requiring a lot of Supreme Court interpretation, and a lot of that has changed. For example, Native Americans were excluded, even though there was no segment of the population more "natural born" than they were. Slaves, too, were excluded. The question of whether that means location, or status of parents, has also been addressed, and the ruling handed down that a person born to a parent who has "citizenship and allegiance" to the US is a natural born US citizen. In practice, if you are a citizen and you didn't have to apply or take a test to become one, you're a natural born US citizen. That would apply to President Obama regardless of whether he was born in Kenya, Hawaii or Antarctica.

Of course, the evidence for his birth in Hawaii is overwhelming, and includes certified copies of his birth certificate, testimony to the existence of the original in the files of the state of Hawaii, the newspaper announcement, and the hospital's medical records. The fact is, no one actually gets an original copy of their birth certificate when they ask for one, they get a certified copy. Mine, for example, ironically an Arizona birth certificate, has become so unreadable and difficult to reproduce over the years that they now issue a completely new certification, computer generated and everything.

Apparently, Governor Brewer has some hesitation about signing such a stupid, ridiculous bill into law, especially if there's a chance it might be ruled unconstitutional, which is almost a guarantee here. The recall effort against her is gaining strength and accumulating a lot of money, and if she signs this, and it is overturned, that might give the opposition the support they need to oust her and the conferederate legislature there.

Well, at least the Governor is showing some good sense. That's not like her, but she's apparently decided not to give those planning her recall any additional help.

The governor doesn't want her future tied to the GOP fringe.
