Frank Buckles of Charlestown WV, who was the last surviving US veteran of WWI, died last week at age 110. I'm incensed that Speaker of the House John Boehner has opposed having Mr Buckles lie in state in the Capitol Rotunda. I just don't get Boehner's objection. Buckles served honorably, but this is not just about one man. Mr. Buckles was the last living link to the first world war, and giving him this honor would give the country the opportunity to remember and pay tribute to all who served in that war. This shouldn't be controversial, and it shouldn't break down along party lines. Frank Buckles should lie in state in the Capitol Rotunda with an honor guard composed of members of every branch of the armed forces. Doesn't take a genius to figure out what is right in this case.
