Ed: David I am no Global Warming alarmist but when you say that you know of no community that was build on farm produce it is nearly as radical as any thing the alarmist posters suggest, I think you definition of produce may be overly restrictive. Off the top of my head I can think of a few communities that in deed where build from the proceeds of produce; Plant City Fl, Strawberries, and mellons, Decatur Indiana, Soy Beans and sugar beets, Clewiston Florida, Sugarcane, Frost Proof Fl, Citrus products. Burnt Hills NY where I am sitting and several small communities in this area where built as business centers to support farmers who grew produce to supply the cities of Albany Troy and Schentady . It is true that most of these farms no longer exist however most of us buy quite a lot of the types of produce shown in the picture to which I have linked here
https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/_zZV8 ... 000857.JPG locally grown by owner operators of the many apple orchards in the area. Tons of apples, gallons and gallons of apple juice and truck loads of applesauce are products of these family owned enterprises. You probably even get some of it in Oklahoma.
But for the most part the other produce stays local.
Another type of Family farm in the State of New York
