And to you. The most meaningful part of my celebration was to listen to a reading of the Declaration of Independence from NPR.

From Gery Milligan...In 1977, our first Fourth of July outside of the USA, a group of us in language school went to the American Community School for the celebration. A fun time, a pick-up softball game, many of the embassy staff and Raytheon support personnel found the beer sales. Our group of FMB (now IMB), knowing how Baker James Cauthen frowned on gratuitous drinking, just watched. But, when the Marine Security Guards in their dress uniforms presented the colors and the US Ambassador to Jordan led us in the Star Spangled Banner, several of us chocked up and "sweated from our eyes." My most memorable 4th and a proud realization that I was (and still am) a citizen of the USA.

I was just thrilled to find out we didn't let the Queen keep the airports back in the 1770s!

A small business in my small town paid for fireworks and free hot dogs. Local bidnessman led the crowd of a thousand or so in an acapella version of the National Anthem...then, kaboom! Blue Angels and tanks would have been nice, though. A big trainload of Army equipment passed through on the RR through town earlier in the day. Probably on the way to some unit's summer camp.

Had a couple of single sourced, organic, natural hot dogs (didn't read the label but made an assumption) from the businesspeople and some free water from the Baptist church, my former pastorate.
My stray thoughts on SBC stuff may be found at my blog,

Pretty quiet here, too. But Mrs. H's son and grandkids live in Ridgecrest, so we were a bit distracted from the neighborhood's percussion.
