The New York Times published and later apologized for the following cartoon. What is your take?

I think it's a political cartoon. What's the argument for seeing antisemitism in it?

I too think it is a political cartoon.

That said I think Netanyahu as being his own despicable self and not a lapdog to the thoroughly despicable Trump.

So it is a poor political cartoon

Putting Trump in a skullcap is a sacrilege.

I took it as an anti-Trump political cartoon. Any anti-semitism went over my head (of course, lots of things go over my head).

Here is what some guy named Bret Stephens wrote:
The Jew in the form of a dog. The small but wily Jew leading the dumb and trusting American. The hated Trump being Judaized with a skullcap. The nominal servant acting as the true master. The cartoon checked so many anti-Semitic boxes that the only thing missing was a dollar sign.

It has garnered enough criticism that the New York Times editorial board blasts ‘appalling’ anti-Semitic cartoon in Times International edition
NYT Board:
“The appearance of such an obviously bigoted cartoon in a mainstream publication is evidence of a profound danger, not only of anti-Semitism but of numbness to its creep, to the insidious way this ancient, enduring prejudice is once again working itself into public view and common conversation.”

A NYT editor:
“The image was offensive, and it was an error of judgment to publish it.”

When I first saw it I thought he was spoofing some Vatican role.

Unfortunately, Zionism and the State of Israel are received as "Judaism" by many. I think this is dangerous. And to that extent I am not in agreement with the notion that this is anti-Semitic. Go HIAS!

Trump's hat and robe definitely look like Vatican attire. Of course, is it possible that giving DJT Christian status is a greater sacrilege than painting him as Jewish?

That makes it come across as anti-Semitic to me.

Only if you are a Christian. He is no better as an observant Jew than he is as a Christian. Shall we start to go through the 10 commandments he has broken?
