Georgia District Flips; Karen Handel Concedes

Either more yankees moved into the district since last year's special election between Republican Karen Handel and Democrat Jon Ossof, or anti-Trump sentiment is growing in Georgia. An anti-gun activist who was inspired to run for Congress by the students at Stoneman-Douglas High School in Florida, Lucy McBath, was declared the winner today.

So apparently those kids and their voter registration push have inspired at least one new Democratic candidate to run and maybe also helped her win.

This was a surprise and it's good to know that there is some small degree of uncertainty in congressional elections. Mcbath ran a ton of ads that I had to watch. The ones that featured her were upbeat and positive. She won by about a point. I'd guess the district will be contested in 2020...but for now, congratulations to her. I've always liked Handel.

When we lived in Houston, there were television ads for so many people running for congress because there were six or seven districts in the same television market, it was hard to figure out who was running against whom. Some of the people running for state senator and rep also ran ads. I guess Atlanta is probably similar. Do you live in that district?
