He is so insecure that to just openly admit this, makes his presidency seem illegitimate, in his own eyes. He can only see how it's about him, not how it is about the American democracy.

This addresses why Trump pays deference to Putin.
1. The Manchurian Candidate: He’s being blackmailed or has been a Russian asset for years.
2. The Wannabe Dictator: He believes that countries should be run like companies—essentially autocracies.
3. The Deadbeat: He’s not only not rich, but he’s badly in debt, and Russian billionaires are among his main creditors.
4. A fourth reason I offer (more favorable to Trump) is that Trump is trying to change the international order by striking new deals with Russia.
I vote for the 3rd reason. Jibes with lack of release of his tax return. What do you think? I could be all 4.
