Trump Instincts are Right

for once.

Trump is Right About Syria: It’s Time to Leave.

In fact, the war has failed to accomplish anything other than to destroy Syria, destabilize Europe, and bleed the United States. Around 500,000 are estimated to have died in the war, with 10 million displaced. Assad is still in power, and Iran and Russia are still his allies. America’s efforts, in short, have been a disaster.

And the big policy change that Trump promised during his campaign has not happened.

Trump dared to say out loud what everyone knew but few in Washington had the gumption to acknowledge: that protracted military campaigns undertaken in Iraq, Afghanistan, and elsewhere had produced little of value. Rather than reducing terrorism, US military efforts were causing it to metastasize. The time had come, Trump suggested, for the United States to tend to its own needs
.

Can we learn?? It seems as if Trump has been pulled in by the "Security State” (SS) and the "Military Industrial Complex” (MIC) as was Obama/Hillary. Bush/Cheney were the epitome of the SS and MIC as is John Bolton. The conclusion of the first link above, warns:

Crucially, the American people must also be vigilant to stop the foreign policy establishment from revving up yet another war, this time with Iran, which would cause an even greater disaster.

Right as in opposite of left or as in opposite of wrong? Your headline seems a bit out of sync with what you wrote, unless you're saying only his instincts are right, and only on interventionism.

In this case (Trump instincts are that we should leave Syria), Trump is right (opposite of wrong). But, I’m afraid, his advisors (e.g Mattis, Kelley, now Bolton) are dissuading him.

My point is that we are not either helping the middle easterners nor are we helping to keep America safer; just adding to the killing and displacement. Time to “give peace chance” and let Syria (and other ME countries) solve their own problems. Jeffrey Sach's article (my leading link) makes those same points.

I’m not sure how Syria is going to solve their own problems with Assad, who is more than willing to kill his own people, is in charge. I’m not saying we can fix it. But it all does beg the question as to when intervention in another country is necessary, and how can it be done effectively?

As to Trump being right, even a blind pig can find an acorn once in a while.
