Far off the news scene and does not affect many, but instructive as to what actually drives congressional action.
Note that this has only passed the House. Call your Senator to say the disabled are more important than your campaign chest. I just sent a message to Doug Jones to this effect.
Reading the bill - it requires a disabled person to make a written complaint about lack of disable access to the many businesses not conforming to the ADA Bill and wait for 6 months for that business to say if it has made "substantial progress” to comply (no reqirement how long until the access improvement is actually made - would not to place any regulatory burden on those businesses). But adding regulatory burden on the disabled - that is fine.
What drives successful legislation is what business wants (especially among the GOP). Shopping malls and hotel lobbyists in this case. Gun lobbyists (notably the NRA) and gun manufacturers in the mass shootings case.
ASAP. I just tried to sign this Petition but was told I already had.
