Dust-up at OU (not football)

I guess this is "sort of" a political issue.
...Kirk Humphreys, evangelical Christian and former Mayor of Oklahoma City, “resigned” from the Board of Regents at the University of Oklahoma. The issue that led to this unfortunate turn of events was Humphreys’ biblical stance on the issue of homosexuality.

Clearly appropriate to the Politics forum. I have far too little knowledge of matters Sooner to venture an opinion about the regent's resignation, whether he should have dug in his heels and fought for his position or whatever. I think he's wrong on the sexuality stuff (just as I think folks who point to the parts of the Bible that can be easily read to support human slavery and were generally so read by most Christian readers for over a millennium and support human slavery on those grounds are wrong) but I have no reason to doubt his sincerity or his salvation. I agree with the writer that many of my fellow leftists ;-) can be just as lacking in support for the rights of those they disagree with as plenty of folks on the right can be. All have sinned, etc.

Yes, it is often true that folks aren't willing to support the freedom of speech, conscience, etc. that they don't agree with.

I find it particularly irksome when they appeal to Baptistness in support of such.
