"Ladies" and "Gentlemen" banned by NYC Transit
Transit workers recently received a bulletin that requires them to use gender-neutral terms such as “passengers,” “riders” or “everyone.”

...conductors will override prerecorded greetings that use “ladies and gentlemen” until the replacements are made.

Managers and supervisors have been told to “monitor for everyone’s compliance" with the new rules.

I think that "passengers" has been the greeting on MARTA in Atlanta for several years.

"Passengers" avoids the "I'm not lady"/"I'm no gentleman" (so the statement or order doesn't apply to me) problem, as well as the few and far between passengers who take offense at the terms. But normally one would simply omit the vocative introduction, not replace it with a "neutral" one.

They offend me by trying to be politically correct!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

They're just applying Lincoln's maxim about always pleasing everybody.
