OK. So what are the political implications for the Huckabee "spider web" and the entanglements with the Trump administration, and the governor replacement and special senate election? Don't just make a statement and walk away. You sound like you've got some information to connect all this, so connect.

Reading the article you posted, it doesn't sound like the "Fundies" are after Samford. It sounds like the trustees are going to consider the request. I don't see that the "fundies" have anything to do with it.

My post on Samford Facebook wall

Samford is the subject of a Baptist Global News story today re upcoming tensions with the Alabama State Baptist Convention. It has major implications for Alabama's strong connections to the Trump White House, not to mention the upcoming Gov Race and Senate Race. I spell that out on Baptist Global News facebook wall and at a post at Yellowhammer News in a recent Gary Palmer thread. What follows are the thoughts this afternoon of a 90s SGA President of Samford.

SGA Prez thoughts:

Agree completely with how Dr. Corts, Ben Brown, Gerow Hodges, John Pittman, and Harry Brock paved the way for a strong Samford in the future.

But so did Janice Milner Lasseter, Marlene Rikard, Elizabeth Wells, Ellen McLauglan, Nancy Whitt and a host of other incredible women who left their marks and will NEVER be forgotten.

I'm thankful for Samford heroes of both genders and various orientations!!

They all taught me about Jesus.

Quoting myself from about 4pm this afternoon

I did not see a post for the Samford story but there is a lot more there. Alabama is the face of the Trump administration in many ways with Sessions Stephen Milller and Yellowhammer news Cliff Simms. Rick Burgess, himself the father of an out of the closet gay daughter is the Jerry Clower of the state with his syndicated radio show. All these folks are entangled with NRA friendly politically active mega influential churches FBC Gardendale, Church of the Highlands and Crawford Broadcasting right wing talk radio WYDE. And Gardendale is getting national attention in Newsweek etc over a school district proposal many see as vagued resegregation. So the gay club at Samford is just the tip of the iceberg in the latest struggle for the soul of the state. And did somebody say Kris Kobach and Immigration......And Westmoreland's daughter former SGA prez at Samford is hardwired to the Mike Huckabee complex whose daughter we know is also in the White House. So the Samford Gay club is a bellwether for sure and I hope Bap[tist Global follows this whole matter closely in full relief and calls out the the Alabama Baptist to tell the whole story as well

I'd be a bit surprised if the establishment of a discussion group (not a "gay club") at Samford University kicks off a major controversy, even in politically backward and provincial Alabama.

Having graduated from a Southern Baptist college, and understanding the atmosphere created by the presence of a lot of Christians of that particular persuasion, the required church membership of college leadership and staff, and the "rules" governed behavior, I clearly understand the need for a discussion group where students can discuss sexuality, along with a lot of other issues they struggle with, in a safe, non-threatening environment. It would have been a lot harder back then to have such a group, but that doesn't mean students were all compliant with expectations, and not struggling with a lot of different issues. Such a group would have been highly productive, with good leadership, in helping students work through those kinds of issues. That kind of group, if it is true to its purpose, wouldn't just be an "it's OK to be gay" discussion, It wouldn't be that simplistic, and hopefully not that biased.
