"The Attitude" of the RW

Postby KeithE » Sun Apr 30, 2017 5:17 pm

"The Attitude” of Limbaugh/FoxNews/Trump/several other pundits/think tanks has been killing ordinary Americans economically for decades now; and it is increasingly harming our environment. They are all in the service of big business and billionaires and has duped many ordinary Americans including much of Christianity. This started with the Powell Memo in 1971.

The Powell Memorandum thus became the blueprint of the rise of the American conservative movement and the formation of a network of influential right-wing think tanks and lobbying organizations, such as The Heritage Foundation and the American Legislative Exchange Council (ALEC) as well as inspiring the US Chamber of Commerce to become far more politically active

Money has been moving towards the top 1% and the big corporations coffers ever since. LOOK AT THE GRAPHS. I’m not just making this up.

That money does not trickle down (as they claim it would in Reagan days) but gets spent temporally by buying (w/o taxes) stocks and bonds on speculation. This amounts to one big betting parlor. The amount of money that is made available to those big businesses does not really matter since they are not investing in new products anyway - the money just keeps bouncing around in the investor class and corporations bank accounts sucking more up from the lower classes. I see no mention of a financial transaction tax (FTT) in the Trump plan (they want every last fraction of a percent on what they purchase). From the NYT and the Tax Policy Center:
An itty-bitty, one-basis-point transaction tax (a basis point is one-hundredth of a percentage point, or 0.01 percent) would raise $185 billion over 10 years

That’s $10 per $100,000 invested.

What has to happen is two things:

1) Eliminate as soon as possible ghgs emissions and sequester excess CO2 in atmosphere and oceans. The book Drawdown quantifies 100 means to do that. It is far from hopeless but “business-as-usual” will not do what is needed. "Business-as-Trump” will be even worse.

2) An infrastructure bill (or other useful jobs programs) that pays people mostly in the 1-4 X livable wage range. Fund it with a Financial Transaction Tax and/or repatriation taxes/fines from offshore Tax Cheats. This will provide the badly needed stimulus and aggregate demand, so that corporations will produce more products/services with their record profits and storehouse of money/investments - they will not create anything if there is not buyers. The middle to low class spends a greater percentage of their money on products/services and less (if any) on investments. The product purchases will be taxed (unlike investment purchases) and thus increase government revenues and turn deficits into surpluses as happened for a few years with Clinton/Gore (see below) or cut the deficit by 2/3rds as Obama did with the 2010-2013 stimulus (also see below). We need another stimulus (as well as infrastructure repair and enhancement) as soon as possible to continue the deficit reduction we have seen under Obama but has petered out.

If 1) happens, our habitat/climate will be healthy for the foreseeable future.

If 2) happens, our society returns to happier days for the 99%.

Does anyone have a comment here? It is well documented and obvious if one follows the facts and data.

Trump (with the aid of Fox News and RW pundits) has exploited the fall of the middle/lower class by casting blame of immigrants and regulation.

Read Report - How immigration helps the US economy by the National Academy of Sciences.

Read Do Regulations Kill Jobs?: Several studies show there is little loss and more jobs gained with personnel administrating those regulations within companies.

What would help is infrastructure spending - a campaign promise, not budged on yet.
