Actually, Ed, most of what I got from Southern Baptists growing up, and afterward, that was a misconception of mainline Protestants came at the church level, and from pastors. The atmosphere and attitude at the state convention-supported university I attended, and at Southwestern Seminary, didn't reflect that perspective. Of course, more than half the students at the college I attended were not from Southern Baptist churches, and because it was the only Christian college in the state at the time, a fair percentage of them were from those mainline Protestant churches, along with a healthy percentage of Catholics. On occasion, a professor might make a statement in class that had a little hint of SBC superiority to it, but it wasn't in the educational institutions where that was prevalent, it was in the churches.
