I've got a collection of several of Hedges' books. He's been prophetic in this regard. Basically, all of the dismantling is for the purpose of cutting the corporate tax rate, perhaps cutting that out altogether, and shifting the tax burden back to the middle class. A bookmark got put in this process that was taking place under the nose, and with the approval of the inept, incompetent Bush. It's started again, and will accelerate, because they no longer need political allies to rob us blind, they have one of their own in the White House.
