Oh, I see. They were actually "Stealth Muslim Women" pretending to be Catholics until they had amassed enough weapons from their bingo winnings to take over the country and impose Blue Laws (English for Sharia).

This thread actually has little to do with Anthea Butler, a highly successful black woman who has worked the “system” for all it’s worth, just like the whites who do the same.  In her view, blacks are “forever-victims,” no matter how much of an un-victim she has proven herself to be.  Using the same “deferred victim-hood” line as the Jackson/Sharpton cabal, she has carved a career out of operating in that precious university system of devoting huge $millions into black-studies departments built upon the keystone of white racism, translated “putdown of black folk,” because it works and is self-perpetuating in a mod-lib society.  Liberal white folks are never happier than when accepting guilt-trips and slobbering over reparations.

The actual theme of this thread, as noted by Congressman Steve King a few days ago in an interview/speech, connotes the effort to totally destroy the culture/mindset of a people that has proven to be the salvation of the world in many ways, i.e., Western Civilization.  A reasonable analogy can be seen in Iran, which way back in the pre-Mohammad days 1400 or so years ago (then-Persia), was the intellectual, technical civilization that gave the world such things as mathematics and military strength.  A supposedly mentally superior people then, either through acceptance or coercion or both fell under the barbaric spell of Islam, contrived next door via Mecca and Medina and the terrorized caravans carved-up by Mohammad.  It fell into ignorance and barbarism as a result.  What has Iran contributed in recent centuries to any area of development?  Nothing noteworthy, at least in comparison with the Western Civilization of Europe and the U.S.  Did its own intellect start development of its own H-bomb (technical achievement), or does credit for that accrue to North Korea and Russia?

Western civilization is almost entirely the creature of white Anglo-Saxon men, mostly Protestants by religious conviction, if any. It's politically incorrect to say that today, never mind its truth. And those Renaissance men of today are watching what they've built disintegrate because they dare not suggest any sort of advantage, native (in the genes) or otherwise. The country—especially the military and much of the technical/spatial areas of account—is being feminized and ethnically and untruthfully claimed to be improved by superior considerations to whatever white men collectively have to offer. More's the pity. The country is being balkanized now into its precious “safe-space” elements but the ultimate result will be rot at the core. The finest elements of Western Civilization in both the arts and sciences are being replaced by a crudeness and ignorance that are painful to watch...sorta like comparing Beethoven to Rap. Butler may or may not understand this but her hopelessness should be remarked, though simply not for the same reasons as offered by her.

I agree with Haruo on this one, Anthea has some points, and for once Jim has some too.

But Thornton misses the point about White Guilt.

Isabel Wilkerson and Civil Rights Pulitzer Taylor Branch--Branch raised Baptist in Atlanta and his father a Samford grad, brother in Lamar Wadsworth Heritage Baptist in Cartersville Ga--are calling for Truth and Reconciliation Committees. Not a White Guilt Trip initiative but 150 years after the Civil War an inititiave to at a minimum to get American History taught correctly in High Schools. The Civil War was about Slavery. Bruce Gourley, Vernon Burton at Clemson and the consensus of Historian are right about that.

I doubt Jim and Thornton have read WAlter Johnson's River of Dark Dreams. Let me get righteous with yall and proudly state it was recommended to me by Furman grad, now Harvard History proff Tomiko Brown Nagin of Greenwood SC.

And to play the martyr card, I was kicked of the facebook community of the Collinsville Historical Association for having misgivings about a Daughters of the Confederacy mentality that tried to equivocate about the Civil War.

It is a travesty that only about two percent of Honors grads in Bama, for instance, know about the significance of Judge Frank Johnson.

As for Reparations, I'm a resistor, but I do think you could make a strong case for Forsyth county Georgia once you read Patrick Phillips Blood at The Root, and I hope my friend Thornton reads it soon.

Jim's post reveals his complete and total lack of knowledge about Anthea Butler. It is pointless to discuss anything else from his perspective, because he has no knowledge of her identity, her struggles and her work. Then he completely undermines his argument by resorting to the same old "Western civilization is almost entirely the creature of white Anglo Saxon men....blah blah blah that has been totally disproven and utterly discredited, but which is the battle cry of mostly older, mostly white males who continue to whine because they must increasingly compete with brighter women and more creative people of color on a playing field that is slowly starting to tilt toward actually being equal, though still leaning heavily in their direction. Individuals like Anthea Butler, who struggled up the tilted field anyway, despite the boots trying to kick her back down, tend to get it right when they vent their frustration over the other side abandoning their own values and integrity to change the rules and try to keep tilting things in their own direction. This has been a very telling conversation.

You're right...this has been a telling conversation (better than marshmallows at 20 feet) as well as remarking the differences in thinking between folks probably two or more generations apart. The idealism I felt as recent as 40 years ago has long since departed in light of the noxious realities festering in the last 40 to the point of the nation now wallowing in its own vomit.
