As expected, not a syllable in this about pressler, SBC, funny. Fox retro fantasy. Helms invoked opposite of the way fox implies...so I fixed it for my friend Stephen.

Bruce Gourley, PHD for instance in current CET

Bruce has an article in the current edition of Christian Ethics Today, Foy Valentine's legacy now edited by Pat Anderson, FU grad of 65 a couple years behind Marshall Frady.
Gourley leaves several commections to SBC and Tea Party to the imagination and is weak on that point. The late James Dunn and the current living Bill Moyers would find laughable and ignorant the suggestion Pressler's politics were limited to Texas and didn't have much in collusion with Albert Lee Smith, Bircher, In Bama and the late Jesse Helms who got to the attention of UNC Chancellor in the quote he shared with Cecil Sherman.
Sandy's anecdotal tales are beside the point.
Gourley has a lot of work to do and has the stature to have some much needed conversations with Rice's Chandler Davidson to define once and for all just how hardwired Pressler, Patterson and Criswell were motivated by race politics, abortion and other wedge issue politics to galvanize the SBC for the right wing of the GOP that now marinates the GOP.
I punt to Gourley for the time being and hope all of you will read his article soon on White Supremacy and the Tea Party.
