That's somewhat of a surprise, and a symptom of a fragmented and divided Republican party. It will be interesting to see who steps up and runs for speaker.
The article says that conservatives were often mad at him because he sometimes depended on Democrats to get things passed. I kind of thought that was the way Congress was supposed to work.
It will be interesting to watch which way this goes. If we get a rootin', tootin' real life conservative in the speaker's seat, their resistance to cooperation and their anti-government tendencies could produce some major damage when the 90% of the electorate who already doesn't approve of the job Congress is doing identify the problem and work to fix it.
Lots of implications here.
