And why was this any business of the federal gummit? Why should it not be my choice whether or not I consume products with trans fat?

Is this the type of job you get (nit picky food regulations) when you have nothing useful to offer to society?

I am somehat ambivalent about TF bein banned but after reading my lib friend's arguments, I may join ET. Give a bureaucrat an opening and they will never stop - cokes, fried foods, whatever trendy pseudoscience is current.

I guess there is an additional consideration. If I have to support the pool of money for Medicare, do I not have a right to expect people to make an effort at staying healthy and a right to expect the government to make reasonable regulations. I personally would favor regulation of nicotine as a drug.

I pretty much see pot and alcohol in the same light. Both need some regulation. But I don't see any more reason to outlaw marijuana than I do to outlaw alcohol.

I also don't see that it fits the discussion on trans fats. As far as I've read there are zero benefits to trans fats and all downsides. It is basically a poison to our bodies. And it other foods can replace what they were using trans fats for in food.

But there are apparently medical benefits to marijuana as well as medical benefits from occasional up to moderate drinking assuming one does not over imbibe. And as long as one does not drive or use other heavy machinery while using either substance.

It is interesting to me that those who don’t like the FDA’s action are essentially saying:

collective groups that they are part of should not advise or control their actions in any way (no matter how proven that advice is, as it is in this case); in fact efforts to control should rarely (if ever) be offered as their “freedom” to bring harm on themselves should not be abridged

It's interesting, we all want to regulate what are our pet issues, not to seek wisdom in how we do it. By the way, all the talk of the Big Gulp was not federal at all but from NYC only.

And many conservatives lionize folks who have achieved their wealth (which they allegedly deserve) largely by knowingly selling us and our kids harmful products.
