Good move, imo. No need to worry about communism taking over in the Americas, which was the original purpose. May be one of Obama’s signature accomplishments. He ought to close Guantanamo and return it to Cuba as well.

I do think there are reasons sometimes for not having normalized relationships with countries because to do so is detrimental to the US. I'm not against that. But there is no real purpose to isolating Cuba now.

The US is at least partly responsible for the circumstances in Cuba that led to Castro's ability to eventually seize power in Cuba. And depending on what the specific aim of US policy toward Cuba has been, in general to separate him from the government and take him out, it has been unsuccessful. It's long past time to try something different.

It is not a small thing that Cubans put nuclear missiles less than 60 seconds of flight time from the US. Their government is not friendly towards the United States. I don't foresee any good things that will come from this. But that is me.

Seems to this lean, mean opinion machine that anything that enhances capitalism or exposes Cubans to those who have benefitted from capitalism will undermine the Cuban communistic system. Of course, it might be interesting to have a place where 1950s vehicles dominate the transportation system making the island into a retro paradise for those who are fascinated with such things.

They have actually moved up to 44 ranking (out of 187 countries) in the Human Development Index (HDI) for 2014 (2nd best in Latin America to Chile).
