Ignorance and Fear on Ebola

Postby Sandy » Fri Oct 31, 2014 6:16 am

Fear of ebola is going to result in the stomping of constitutional rights. Of course, when you slash the budget of the CDC, and turn everything into politics, you get stupidity like that being demonstrated by the governors of New Jersey and Maine. Selfishness and ignorance seem to be running rampant among Republicans this election season, and they're back to their position of denying everyone's rights at the expense of their own.

Sandy is worried that ebola will cost the Dems votes; hence, the slap at republicans. Another couple of cases showing the CDC screw ups and it might...but I don't wish that to happen. I don't think the ebola mess will count against Obama much next week, but he has a lot of other messes going that will.

Yeah, the CDC can't manage the most significant disease to hit US shores since HIV with a $6+ billion budget. As is the DC routine, failure should be rewarded with additional funding.

What failire? Other than the bungling by a private, corporate owned hospital in Dallas, and their Republican county judge, it seems that the CDC and the Obama Administration have handled this very well. We're down to just one case, we're still supplying the lion's share of aid to West Africa to eradicate it, and the nurse in Maine who was unconstitutionally quarantined is out, due to a clear minded, reasonable judge.

$6 billion sounds like a lot o money, but it's a drop in the bucket compared to corporate health care profits, and gets stretched pretty thin considering what it must cover. Maybe conservative extremists think that cutting budgets to put more profit in corporate hands is the way to go. I wouldn't put it past corporate mentality to bring ebola to the US and create a health crisis so they could profit from it.

Oh, I forgot. Everyone has been praising CDC for their handling.

Frankly, the cable news cycles have made ebola an issue. There have been four cases on US soil, two infected in West Africa and two from poor hospital procedures in the same hospital. Lacking anything else to rep0rt on ebola yesterday, one network had a feature that nurse Tina Pham had been reunited with her dog. All of this seems far out of proportion to reality. Guess they want to keep us in fear so we will keep watching. The real concern ought to be, "How do we help the poor countries in West Africa where over 10,000 have been infected and over 4,000 have died. We have made this totally about us and not about being citizens of the world, much less Christian ones who pray for "God's kingdom to come and his will be done on earth as it is in heaven." Guess we don't mean helping folks in West Africa in our prayers.

Well, Canada has shown itself to be short on principled behavior.
