It has risen about 0.8 C (= 1.44F) in the past 130 years; only about 0.5C (=0.9F) in the past 35 years (according to two totally independent measurements approaches)




Note the differing time scales.

If by “significant”, you mean how rare is that rate of change: According to paleoclimatic studies, the earth has never warmed that quickly by a factor of 6.

If by “significant”, you mean what are the bad impacts on society of global warming: They have been manifold already (extreme weather, food supplies, water resources, health effects) and will get worse (even if effective mitigation were turned on immediately).

Ed: David, I was surprised to see KeithE start a post with a reference to "Wikipedia" I wonder if perhaps his reference was to an article in which he was a primary contributor. I am grateful to Wicki in their role as a provider of cumulative opinion on almost any topic but like your self I am dubious about much of what I find there.
