I'd give these kids high fives all the way around. They have the vote at 18. The idea of "sanitizing" what they are being taught about American History at 16 or 17 is insulting to their intelligence.
Don't despair if your job and your rewards are few, remember that the mighty oak was once a nut like you!

It's an old tradition that is often resurrected. When I was taught history in high school and in middle school, slavery was so sanitized you could never have found anything objectionable or wrong in it. Also, people from my state who fought for the Confederacy were deemed heroes of state's rights. Of course, the treatment of the Indians was totally ignored, except for the Pocahontas story.
