How GOP Sabotages Government for Fun and Profit

This may be unconsious but in effect that is what the House GOP has done over several years. Neuters government agencies by minimizing their budgets (or in the case of the Post Office adding requirements) and then complains about performance. Quite a political “two-step” as the article says.

Back when Benghazi first became an issue, the Secretary of State's office produced documentation that they had requested extra security, and discovered that the bill which would have provided the funding to increase embassy security, particularly in the Middle East, was held up in committee by none other than VP candidate Paul Ryan. He's the one who should be investigated.

I think it is totally on purpose. They support their contention that government is the problem by hamstringing government and then pointing to lack of performance when they are actually the ones not performing.

Sometimes they (GOP) have their budget-cutting, govt-can't-do-anything-right hats on when dealing with spending authorizations (without explicitly knowing it with fail us as a nation). For instance I do not think the GOP had in mind an embassy attack like Benghazi when the State Dept budget line for security was being discussed.

Other times, like the demand that the Post Office fund full postal worker retirement out to 75 years in the future, it was with the intention it would kill the Post Office's cost-effectiveness and hopefully force it into privatization (Fed-X and UPS lobbied for that).

It is abundantly clear that many (if not most) of Congress are playing politics more than seriously trying to study what is best for the country's common good.

I'll Amen you amen!

Keith you have a good point. There is a disconnect between wanting good government and not wanting to fund it. Of course no one on the GOP was thinking over an attack on an embassy when they didn't vote for more money for security. But no one thinks of more people getting food poisoning either when money is cut for meat inspection. The consequence often comes months or years after the initial decision.
