One of my uncles did a term in the Civilian Conservation Corps during the great depression. He was clothed and fed and most of what little he was paid was sent home to his family. He enjoyed building trails and park shelters around the St. Louis area so much that he applied and was accepted for another hitch in the corps. He saved enough to pay for a semester of college and hitch-hiked out to Idaho thinking he would go to college and become a forest ranger. Switched his major to Architecture and worked for Boeing Aircraft for his adult career. That government program built structures that are stlll in use to today and taught thousands of young men self discipline and building trades skills. The money they sent home to families helped them buy clothing and food. The economy was stimulated.
Don't despair if your job and your rewards are few, remember that the mighty oak was once a nut like you!
