More Voter suppression by the GOP

Postby Sandy » Mon Nov 11, 2013 9:37 pm

Apparently, the GOP controlled voter commission in Virginia attempted to keep some 3,200 absentee ballots from heavily Democratic Fairfax County from being counted in order to keep the race for attorney general tight enough for a recount. Also, they changed the rules on counting provisional ballots in Fairfax County in order to attempt to suppress the Democratic vote. In the attorney general's race, the Democrat and Republican are in a very close race, within a hundred votes. The 3,200 absentee ballots, and about 3,000 provisional ballots would likely be about 65% Democrat, since that's the way the rest of the county voted, and that would probably be enough votes to put the Democrat over the top without a recount being required.

Republicans have a hard time winning elections when the turnout is high, and all of the votes are counted.
