When Medicare was adopted, there were all kinds of issues and problems with the beginnings of the system. Congress rolled up its sleeves and began to address them. Now, the Republican side votes weekly to repeal the ACA and the Democrats have been busily defending it. Where is the will to tweak this to "promote the general welfare?" Have we allowed partisanship and "dollarocracy" to trump one of the stated purposes of the US Constitution? It would certainly seem so.

Timothy, I'm sure it's just a coincidence that one of the major contractors on the web project has given sizable donations to Congressman Issa.

And ET, NPR says the ACA law already allowed insurance companies to renew existing policies until the end of this year, which would have covered folks until the end of 2014. The companies know that, so their rush to cancel policies seems quite suspicious to me.

I should also point out a report that there are deliberate attacks on the web site designed to overwhelm and crash it, according to this article:

Only about half of our employees have received a letter stating that their policy has been cancelled. We are wondering why that is the case and anticipating that the policies will be cancelled, mainly because we have an HRA instead of all of that money going to the premiums. However, we are fortunate in that we have found a policy with another company that will wind up providing us with about the same benefits, at about a 2% decrease in premiums. What I'm hearing across the board, among the small private schools in our area who provide insurance, is about the same, the old policy is cancelled, the new policy provides more and costs less.
