Yesterday and Weds I heard three lectures at Samford from www.randallbalmer.com on his new book about President Carter--see history at this site.

This morning I called FBC Sburg and talked to the receptionist. She knows my voice from previous calls. A kind woman I asked her if I could ask her a few questions. She was game. I wanted to know if she laid the weight of the blame on the shutdown at the feet of her fellow church member Trey Gowdy and the Tea Party; or President Obama. She said she feared we were becoming a "socialistic" country.

She was kind. I pointed some things out including Balmer had made references to Billy Graham as "disingenuous" and complicit in "mendacity" in the late 70s on abortion and Bob Jones politics and his activity in the 1980 Presidential campaign.

Toward the end of the conversation--apparently I was unwittingly on Speaker Phone--another person started Chanting USA, USA in the background and sequewayed in to God Bless America.

Either they have a SNL sense of humor there in the office of FBC, or it was quite bizarre

Then Saturday night Mike Huckabee was spinning Gowdy in all kind of directions after his opening monologue which sounded like he went with David Montoya's break with Pressler in 88 in Arkansas

Friday in USA Today Gowdy said he was gonna stymey immigration in the House for revenge against Obama in the shutdown.

CBF and Alliance Baptists of FBC Greenville know Gowdy is disingenuous in his false invitation to listen to the faith community on immigration, else he would not be out to lunch on Wofford Trustee and Greenville native Willimon's experience with the Tea Party in Alabama. For that one google Willimon repents, ethicsdaily. And with Chick Fil A endorsing the Dream Act, Gowdy's Wallace in the schoolhouse door posture has reverberations for the South Baptists Missions board as Cathy's bro in law was a recent VP of that outfit

Even Billy Graham knows it's not Christian to invite Hispanics to Vacation Bible School in Berea, tell them about Jesus, and in the public schools tell them about Martin Luther King and Abraham Lincoln and then when they get in tenth grade or so the United Sttates Congressman tell them, no this is an inconvenient season, it doesn't apply to you but we sure do appreciate your parents back breaking labor these last 7-ten years or so you've been here. Bishop Willimon emailed me in Bama that's like the fugitive slave law. As Fanny Lou Hamer said: Is this America?
