David said the Great Communicator himself would be quibbling with Obama only on about two percentage points of a tax increase on the super wealthy. Again the fair minded consensus from Douthat to Norm Ornstein of the AEI says the tea Party house of Billy Graham and the SBC is at fault.

Who knows but the prudent way forward seemed to be with Chet Edwards and my Furman classmate Baron Hill but the rightwingers aided and abetter by the leadership of the Southern Baptist Convention had other plans and complicities in 2010 and here we are.

Neil is right with his link to the caveats, but those don't slow down a good topic for tweaking the libs.

Keith, we both favor law and order and obeying laws, so there is nothing to discuss about legal movement of capital overseas or to the hole in your back yard. Neither you nor I are expected to pay more than our legal obligation in taxes.

There is a reason for moving money offshore. Obama not only understands that but either has or does practice it: preservation of capital.

There is a reason that the middle class has never been larger: US companies moving capital and production overseas. Lest my fellow followers of Christ be guilty of xenaphobia, you are interested in prosperity for the abject poor in China and India, right?

It has long been apparent that our friendly socialist liberals, especially the religious liberals in that group, believe that the income of an individual belongs to the government, except for what gummit deigns to allow the individual to keep, that corporations are evil, the rich are indeed morally filthy, and especially that the power of gummit, guns, blood if necessary, be used to forcibly seize income and assets from others as a way to impose their ideas of fairness.

The thought of forcing banks to seize and chunk of all depositors' savings and give it to gummit has libs all over the world foaming at the mouth...and has those who value private property fearful.

If you guys would like for money to come home to Papa Sam, then lower the tax rates. Money flows for predictable reasons.

On the other hand, we have a government here that is of by and for the people. "We, the People of the United States..."

Right, got it. One group of citizens may use power of government and attendant deadly force to limit compensation agreed upon between two private parties.

We are both in favor of obeying laws. We are both in favor of paying one's required taxes. Neither of us is in favor of evading taxes, although no US citizen is obligated not to avoid taxes that are not required. You do that. I do that. It is rational economic behavior.

When a political or religio-political liberal speaks of "ethical" activity they often use that as the rubric by which they seek to force others to conform to their idea of proper behavior. I rather like freedom.

I am confident that you and I both behave according not only to statutory law as citizens of the US but also as citizens of heaven as followers of Christ. Unless you seek to impose your Christian values on non-Christians or those Christians who are less attuned to the spiritual values we share and by which we live, then our fellow American citizens should be controlled by laws duly passed, not by laws plus what you think ethical. If you want economic decisions to conform to your idea of good ethics then persuade them to be enacted as statutes; otherwise, I will presume you are just taking shots at the evil rich and wicked corporations to feel better.
