Furman Baptists and Selma, 1965 and Beyond

Proud of this blog, proud enough I brought it to the attention of Wayne Flynt; and several folks of Furman Religion and History Departments among whom is David Shi, former FU Prez and Chair of History Department at Davidson.
Monday I woke up wondering if T.C. Smith spoke to Herbert Gezork on the Selma Bridge in 65 and decided to call the Son of Nixon's Barber, Smyth and Helwys founder and longtime Chaplain at Furman, the Honorable Jim Pitts.
Wasn't long before I had T.C. Smith's phone number and called him yesterday late afternoon.

Marshall Frady tribute in current Alum magazine

Doug Cumming, son of former editor of Newsweek writes the piece. Great tribute on the 8th anniversary of Frady's passing. Gourley in particular will want a copy.

Great tribute to Frady Is Now Online

Enlarge the text if it makes the reading better.

Even though it is online I publicly encourage John Pierce to use Doug Cumming's Still Learning essay for Baptists Today Print Issue this fall. Frady should be known to the whole spectrum of Progressive Baptists and he is still a mystery or foggy to many
