Carter wasn't a great President, and some of those associated with his administration didn't have his level of integrity. But whether you agreed with his politics or not, there's no arguing with his integrity, decency, nor with the fact that he stands alone in that regard among modern American Presidents. He is unmatched by any of his successors when it comes to integrity and trustworthiness with the possible exception of Obama.

He's also the only living former president (or dead for that matter) I've met in person. I attended a church service with Bill Clinton, but we didn't actually meet. Stephen?

Ive had brief chats with Carter on four different occasions over the years and his point man Jody Powell read 60 pages into a screenplay I collaborated on.
See my blog on the chats with Carter.
Ive been in Carter's presence at least one other occasion. Have been in the presence of five other Presidents, Both Bushes, Ford and Reagan and Obama.
Feel like I know Nixon and have several friends and acquaintances who Dick new but I personally was never in his presence. He spent the night in the Daniel Mansion just out Furman's back gate in 62 and the Furman chapel is named for Mr. Daniel. Nixon was great friend of Roger Milliken whose son I knew well the summer of 70, and my Grandfather's brother was sent by Nixon as a VP of Reynolds Aluminum to China in 72 as well as to meet the Shah of Iran, Paul Fox.
My good friend retired Chaplain at Furman, Jim Pitts father, Milton was Nixon's barber, Also Reagan and and Carter. Milton has a wiki page.
