Ty Cobb made a ton on Coca Cola.

:?

That's quite a post. I got lost in there somewhere between NPR, Coretta Scott King, Criswell, the assassination of JFK in Dallas, Trump, the John Birch Society, Furman, Trey Gowdy and Marshall Frady. Oh, I did see Will Campbell in there, too.

Ty Cobb

Johnny Pierce had good article on Cobb few years ago and a letter and donation to a Baptist preacher.'

Part of his legend is as young player in the summers he would come up to Murphy NC and play games toward Franklin. Whether or not he ever played in Truett's hometown of Hayesville, I do not know though Dave Bristol who managed the Reds at one point and was on Brave Staff often came through town.

Sandy will want to know Randall Lolley's Brother Tom, Randall dismissed by Jesse Helms forces at SEBTS--see my blog; Tom Lolley was associational missionary for WNC and had great anecdote about the Second Coming in WNC about 1916. If Sandy you've forgotten, will be glad to tell you again.

I have not left a message at FBC Spartanburg in Ten days.

I always wondered where the Second Coming took place in 1916.

The plot thickens when one considers that there couldn’t have been a second coming in WNC about 1916 without there having to have been a first coming in WNC about 1916. Two “comings” in such a short period of time in WNC probably has folks there grasping their shotguns and Bibles, as Obama would have described them in 2016. Even more sinister is the wonderment regarding where WNC is located, especially since it rates a missionary of its own.

Jim, I recommend that you take a valium or three, don’t watch TV for a week, run ten miles a day and perhaps you will begin to understand, and deal with the trauma that a successful, two term, African American President has caused you. It seems that you are quite resentful of President Obama, and very traumatized by the fact that an African American man faced down unprecedented obstructionism and virulent racism, and was successfully and overwhelmingly re-elected, receiving the highest vote totals of any elected politician in world history. Maybe you should make that four valium, since facts really seem to confuse and traumatize you, and two weeks away from Breitbart propaganda and extremist right wing media.

Ed: And Jim, I suggest you ignore people like Sandy who dianose and prescribe without a license.

OTOH Clemson's Vernon Burton

Postby Stephen Fox » Tue Mar 07, 2017 4:12 pm

Furman grad 69 and one of the best Historians of Race in America had the following kudo shared on my facebook wall. He and Benjamin Mayes of Morehouse have been good friends since the day Mayes spoke at Furman in 69 and then student Burton took him back to the airport.

Very nice job on the coke parallels. I had just recently told my daughter about the King story and Coke. She works for Coke. And that story is one of which coke can be proud
