The truth about Jerry Vines

Vines has become a matter of disagreement on SBC Trends so I thought I would move my thoughts on this former president of the SBC here where I may have more oxygen for observation and truthtelling. For chat to date do check the two streams at SBC Trends my original "critique"...

My Momma walked out on Vines sermon in 86 in Atlanta, either him during the Pastor's Conference or Charles Stanley's Convention sermon that year. In any case it was a disastrous reversal of the integrity of Baptist fellowship to the tumult of the 80s; and when my My Momma walks out well something isn't going right.

Vines tragic Convention sermon in 87 in St Louis marked him forever. I think Vines was key point man when the Presslerites visited the campus of SEBTS to start the series of events that led to the ouster of Randall Lolley.

I talked to my friend John Killian couple days ago. He's read Vines new Autobiography; said it was great telling of a career of a prophetic preacher.

Said he thought there was a segment in the book about Vines relationship with Tim Tebow's family.

He didn't say anything about the Birch Society which was in the water Vines swam in in his dual 60s stay at West Rome (ga) baptist church.

I'm not a big fan or admirer of Vines, and my perception is that, among the inner circle of resurgence leaders, he's the least admired among the up and coming generation of Southern Baptists. But the title of this thread is going to be a far cry from what it represents.

And the first covers story of SI on Tebow in 2009 or so had a quote from Tebow's father that said in effect Inerrancy of Scripture was not a Hill on Which to Die, though the Tebow's were hard core members of Jerry Vines FBC Jacksonville.

I am trying to find the quote from a Tim Tebow SI cover story of five years or so where Father Bob Tebow said he was not as convicted about inerrancy as his pastor Jerry Vines but it continues to escape me.
