Martha Stearns Marshall / Women Preachers Sunday

Facebook just reminded me of this item posted there by Lamar Wadsworth three years ago:

Lamar wrote:Today at Heritage Baptist Church in Cartersville, we observed Martha Stearns Marshall Sunday, a day that honors the memory of Martha Stearns Marshall, an able and gifted Baptist preacher in colonial times and among the earliest Baptists to preach in the colony of Georgia, and a day to celebrate and encourage women called to Christian ministry. Our preacher for the day was Karen Zimmerman, a third year student at McAfee School of Theology at Mercer. Karen's grandparents, Bob and Wynette Hoggard, are members at Heritage. She delivered a superb, clear, gospel-rich message. I was amazed to learn afterward that it was only her second time to preach in a worship service. She is an excellent communicator and very much at home behind a pulpit. I would love to hear her again!

Morgan Edwards's view of "eldresses," from his book Customs of Primitive Churches:
Of the office of eldresses

Probably too liberal for the conservatives and too conservative for the liberals.

Heritage has been blessed with 4 of our young people with a strong gift for gospel preaching. Two boys and two girls. Sixteen year old Molly Miller preached her first sermon last year. She is a powerful pulpit presence. Twelve year old Sydney Rhodes preached her first sermon February 17 and brought a fine message.
