No, we didn't consider that option, Ed. We are returning to a location we have worked with before, Morningstar Child and Family Services in Brunswick, GA. Our church has several ongoing relationships with people/places we've already been. We try to rotate our summer projects on a 4-year cycle of local, in-state, in-US, and international sites.
This particular project is one we do with all ages from our church. Some of us will go for the entire week, doing construction on a building there. Others, including families with small children are invited to come down for a long weekend at the end of the week. During that time we find work that can be done by the various ages so that all can contribute. Even preschoolers can help pull weeds and spread pine straw. We also plan some free time for the weekend, so families can recreate together. It has become a mission trip and church-wide retreat rolled into one.
