I've been visiting this board off and on for several years, but had never registered. I don't know how often I will weigh in, but I appreciate the diverse discussions that go on here. They have often informed my own perceptions of issues in Baptist life.

About me: I was raised Disciples of Christ before becoming a Baptist in high school. While in college at a Baptist liberal arts school in South Georgia, I became very interested in church history and historical theology in general and Baptist history and identity in particular. I've been on faculty at Southeastern Seminary since 2007, where I teach Church History survey courses, Baptist History and Distinctives, and electives related to American Christianity and the Reformation. I'm a conservative Southern Baptist and member of a downtown First Baptist Church. I've been blogging since 2004; I currently blog at my personal website, One Baptist Perspective (, and our seminary's faculty blog, Between the Times (

Mohler, Voices and SEBTS

Postby Stephen Fox » Wed Oct 06, 2010 12:59 pm

Hope you jump in the discussion on Mohler's cover story at Christianity Today right away.

Maybe you could inflect the exchanges going on at about SEBTS and bring your perspective here ... bc-voices/

Former Emory and SEBTS Grad about comment 25 and following where the discussion turns to SEBTS.

Several exchanges in the Mohler thread on all this and you will be "immersed" as it were here in the Conversations.

Looking forward to your participation, Nathan. A serious, scholarly conservative SB voice will be refreshing. I'm the moderator tasked with weeding out the newbies; glad I didn't toss you on grounds of suspiciousness or something (the vast majority of new registrants are more or less obvious spambots, my job is educated sifting).

Welcome Nathan!

I'm a former Baptist who hangs around on to keep in touch with friends in the Baptist family. I'm probably on the opposite end of the theological spectrum from you. But we have a broad group of folks here on

Welcome Nathan! I took a little time to look over your Blog and was particularly interested in the item titled Some Thoughts on Multi-Campus Churches , and thought you presented some valid concerns. I will start a new thread on the SBC board to present a question about this phenomenon. BTW, I am a former Southern Baptist. My wife and I are both graduates of SBTS. I am retired and she is the pastor of a church in the ABC-USA, here in the NY State, Capiral area, we are also active participants in the Baptist Fellowship of the North East (CBF) .
